Hi, I'm considering getting the Sony DRU500AX with which enclosure or the DRX500ULX. Need your advice/experience.
My current system is a IBM Thinkpad A22p, P3, w/ W2K SP3, 1394 card, enough RAM, hooked up to external IBM 120G HD thru 1394.
Option 1 DRU500AX:
a) With ADS Pyro 1394 enclosure - 1394 (x2). Same setup as my external HD.
b) With ADS Combo enclosure (DLX0185) that supports 1394 (x2) and USB2.0 (x1)
c) With FireXpress 525DX enclosure - 1394 (x3) and USB2.0 (x1)
or
Option 2 DRX500ULX
Comes from Sony as an external drive with one each of 1394 and USB2.0
Looking for the solution that offers the most flexibility (i.e. future upgrades, daisy chaining) but has been proven to work.
TIA,
Superb

Since the external is just an IDE internal stuck in a case, there's really no difference. Get what's cheapest and fits the interface you want.
I use the internal mounted in a firewire box and it works fine with my Dell I8000 laptop and homebrewed desktop. Firmware flashes work fine through the firewire. -
It is up to you. I bought internal A because there was no external at the time and it was very good deal. Then I bought FireWire enclosure. I like to convince myself that this is better since I can make it internal anytime I need to.
Or I can use enclosure for something else if I need to.
