i ripped the vob files but dvd2one 1.1.1 wont let me compress them, says i need video_ts.ifo file...
DVD decrypter wont create ifo of certain discs i have (says no vulnerable blocks...so i'm stuck with smartripper). any suggestions?

Try ripping in "Backup" mode, that gets everything off the entire disc.

You can also try file mode. There you can check every file on the disc, and include all the ifo's and other files that you need, and skip the files you don't need.
