    I don't know that you get a huge choice, but top of the list appears to be MacTheRipper

    If you don't need to actually make a copy of the DVD, try Handbrake to make a high-quality H264 which will be much smaller (and will play on an AppleTV or iPod).

    Lawnman, you have a way with words.

    Guns1inger, Handbrake can handle most (especially older)
    protected DVDs. It won't do the newer nasty protection schemes
    like Sony/Disney. I'm with you and just use MTR. Why try other
    apps when I'm (pretty) sure MTR will work.
