  1. I just bought a DRU500AX recently and ordered a spindle of Optodisc DVD-R's after reading in here that they work well.

I use Nero (the current version which is certified to work with the DRU500A/AX and does so.

THe media is certified as 1X but Nero says it can burn it at 2X and when I tell it 1X out of paranoia it just goes ahead and burns 2X.

I'm not up to burning movies yet, I'm just using them for data - like big CD-R's. I burned a disc today with verification on. It verified successfully, but when I tried to copy the files back to my hard drive later one of them failed to copy due to a CRC error.

I just finished re-creating that disc, and as I said, Nero started burning at 2X even after I specified 1X. Verify ran succesfully just like the first time. This time I was able to copy all the files back to my hard drive.

Is this just a random thing (it's happened with CD-R's before occasionally) or do I need to be worried about burning at 2X on Optodiscs? I guess I can just use the software that came with the burner, since it will burn at 1X if I tell it to, I'm just a long-time Nero user and like it.

  2. I burn 2x on 1x media with nero and the dru500 all the time, no problems with reliability. I can't answer why it won't let you burn in 1x though.

  3. Bryan,
I am also a long-time Nero user, but I switched to RecordNow MAX after reading many, many posts in several of the forums on this site. Realistically, I use 4 burning apps: CloneCD for exact 1-1 CD copies, Roxio EZ CD/DVD creator for Audio/Data disks, CDRWIN for SVCD images, and RecordNow MAX for DVD-Video. Yeah, I know, that seems kinda crazy, but I've not found one app that does all these functions as good as each individual. I don't even use Nero anymore.
