I just made an SVCD (about my 50th one) and it has a problem in my stand alone player but not on my computer. In the dvd player it has spurts where it speeds up for a handful of frames and then goes normal again. It's like vbr gone bad or something. I encoded it CBR like all my other svcd's. Any ideas folks?

This can be caused by a poor quality blank CD (or just a bad one in the batch) - the stand-alone DVD players are not as tolerant as the PC.
You can try burning at a lower speed, this sometimes works. -
It was burned on a reasonable quality TDK CD-RW at 4x speed. I haven't had a problem with these discs before but I can always experiment with your suggestion.

Stuttering is often a sign that the bitrate you used is too high for you DVD player. What bitrate did you convert with? Standard is 2520,some DVD players wil be unable to handle anything above 2520.
-
When I fit it to a 700 mb cdrw, the bitrate was 2447 k/sec. Not any higher than the 2520 I have used in the past in this dvd player.

Bitrate is within spec.,another possibility would be the field order you selected. I know from expierence that selecting the wrong field order in CCE will result in stuttering.
-
I am not familiar with a field order setting. I was using TMPGEnc for encoding.
