Am I missing something here?
I am wanting to convert avi files to mpegs so I can burn them in Toast as a VCD. I have tried exporting a 650 meg avi file with QT Pro and it gives me an error message saying that the movie will not fit on a CD once exported.
Do I have to split the file into smaller segments first?
Does QT normally export large avi files with no trouble?
I have just tried exporting a 134 meg avi and that gave me a 300 meg mpeg file. How much decompression do you on average get, going from an avi to an mpeg? For example, does a 650 meg avi become a 1.3 gig mpeg (2x)??
As an aside, I understand that divx is a highly compressed format, but if I had the choice between downloading a movie that was both in avi and VCD (bin/cue) form (and download time/size wasn't an issue), which should I get? Which gives the better quality picture?

when exporting to mpeg within quicktime, the file size of the source file is irrevelant. What QT looks at is the DURATION. You can only fit 74-80 min of video ona a single VCD. You would need to split the movie to fall within those guidelines.
Hope this helps.
