  1. Mr CD burner seems to have trouble burning to CD-R's. Everytime. Fine burning CD-RW's. It's a Samsung SW-224B if anyone knows anything about em. Anyone got a reason why ?

I might sound noobish here but how do I find out most of that ?

I've tried all differant software, burn errors on CD-R's with all.

  4. We'll skip the PC part for now, just pay attention CAREFULLY to what I write:
Get ASPI v4.60 Build 1021 ONLY! not 4.7 or nothing else!
    http://web2.iadfw.net/jlundy/notes.htm

Which CD Burning Software are you using ? I strongly recommand you use
NERO, and if you are, make sure it's the latest version

Appreciate the help! CD burning isn't my particular feild of expertise so...

Anyway about to d/l this, I'll let ya know how it goes. I do usually use Nero, but after the errors I tried using near enough all the burnin apps available.

  6. I Suggest so you don't waste any CDR's, that you use the Simulation Mode
only for now, and close ANY program you may have open, to minimize any
    chance of something interupting.

  7. The burning seems fine on simulation...Im checking differant format.

  8. Yeah Simulation works fine, I tried it with two differant formats. Seems like it could be a hardware problem then ? Cause it works fine with RW's.

  9. I Suggest you first do all the Burning in Simulation mode, and only after all
the test you did came out ok in Simulation, then perform a real burn.

  10. Well, I tried simulating then burning a CD and still got an error in the burn, yet none in the sim.

  11. Hmm... Which CD Burner do you have ? which CDR media are you using ?
Also which Windows ? (95/98/ME/2000/XP) what type of Burning is it doing ?
(CD to CD / HDD to CD)

Give me all the details you can give.

Right now im using TDK media, but this is onyl because I wanted to try another from my usual media after the errors. It's a Samsung SW-224b. Im using XP and I've tried all sorts of burning, every format, audio, video CD and all at differant types such as DOA, TAO etc.

  13. So simulation always worked, and actuall burning always failed ?
If possible, is there any chance you can test that CDRW on another PC ?
I want to come to conclusion if it's Hardware or Software issues.

Yeah I've already tried it. It works fine on other computers too.

  15. Then conclusion is: Something is wrong with your Windows XP! not in your
CDRW drive, if you say it burned good on another PC! which means either
there is some software running on your XP that's causing the failure, like for
example XP's build-in Burning software which could conflict.

Or your Windows XP drivers are not working properly, this is what I can think
from the top of my head, but either way, it's not the Drive, it's a Software.

My mistake. When you said 'test the CDRW' I thought you mean my RW disc. I can't test the actual drive in another computer, not right now anyway. Sorry

  17. Oh, well, I really strongly suggest you try doing that test, and also, if it is
enabled, I recommand you disable XP's internal burning program, it can be a
    cause of your problems.

  18. Thanks for all the help. I'll try it in another machine first chance. I'll take one last try with XP's burning disabled, though I can't see this being the root as it was burning fine before.

Appreciate all the help though. Thanks a lot 8)

  19. With Pleasure! I'm hoping to hear that we have found the root of the problem
as in alot of cases the XP's internal burning program can cause mishaps with
an external program (what else is new!)

  20. Sorry for sounding noobish again but how exaclty do I disable XP's burning feature ? I always thought it was in the properties of the drive, under the recording tab and untick the box that says 'Enable recording to this drive', but this seems to disable ALL burning from the drive.

  21. That sounds strange, as far as I recall, that's how you are supposed to do it,
are you sure NERO won't burn if you disable that feature ? I think we better
wait for more eXPerts to explain how to disable it without stopping others to
    burn.

  23. I Suggest we wait for the e"XP"ert to assist you on how to do it properly, as
    i'm running 98SE and I don't remember XP's screens by heart

Instead of disabling the XP internal burning software by: "untick the box that says 'Enable recording to this drive', but this seems to disable ALL burning from the drive." try going about disabling the built-in burning software this way:

    1. Right click My Computer and click manage
    2. Click the "+" sign to expand Services and Applications (at the bottom on the left side)
    3. Click "Services" to show services
    4. In the window on the right double click "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service"
    5. Click "Stop" under service status
    6. Change the "Startup Type" to manual or disabled
    7. Click OK on the bottom of this page.

The above will disable the XP internal burning software, yet other programs can still burn to CD. I keep mine turned off in this manner and VCDEasy and Nero still burn fine.

  28. I Strongly suggest you don't do anything else till you test that drive on a
different PC, just to make sure it's not the drive causing the damages.

  30. Personaly I suggest if you can, to try installing Windows98 on your PC using
another HDD, so you won't need a whole new PC, this can eliminate the XP
    possible problem.
