I have recently bought an NEC-ND1000. . it has burnt several discs without problem on both Ritek and Datawrite discs but is burning a huge number of coasters. I run windows XP and have tried Nero, Prassi and GearPro. . same problems , often staing that the laser failed to calibrate.
Is it possibly too many burning programs or a problem with over installed ASPI layers, it is annoying as it works intermittently and CD's are burning perfectly. . .
Thanks for any help , you will save me a huge amount on blank DVDR+
PS. . are there any new firmware available for this drive yet??

right its down to cheaper media if you buy the more expensive media you not have a problem it seem that nec have put a restriction on cheaper media so when you try to burn them you get the power calibration error a think its down to back hander off the companys that make the DVDs and if you get a firm ware update give me a shout cos mine has the same problem i usaly stick to infinite DVDs so try them and youl have no problems but as a say thay are more expensive
