  1. Is there a way to convert any stereo format from protools to ac3 used in sizzle or capty dvdv without using dvdsp?

I am replacing the audio from a dvd with a new track (old one was noisy).

    Thanks

    cant ffmpeg do this?

    Mediapipe?

If you use Unix tools, convert to a .wav format first as I get faster encoding when using .wav.

When you say without DVDSP, are you including A.Pack with that bundle?

  4. of course I meant without A-Pack.
I do not have the luxury that DVDSP brings to dvd authoring ,in fact I just manage to purchase a firewire dvd-rw so funds are limited these days.

Yes I have tried w/fffmpeg. but no go .Everything I 've tried out there either cannot read the .m2v file(...audio file bad or corrupt..etc...) or ,as in sizzle I can't get the audio file to show up( unknown format) yet it is standard sdII (Pro tools) files. From what I read ,only A-Pack is able to convert to the different acceptable audio formats, and that is bundled w/DVDSP ....
I demuxed and decoded original dvd the files w/dvd extractor 0.9 and cannot use the resultant .m2v or pcm files ,hence the reason for this post.

    Thank you

Still don't know exactly what you're really trying to do, but if you have ProTools (as it sounds like you do) and need AC3 files, you should just get Kind-Of-Loud's (oops, now it's Universal Audio) "SmartCode Pro" AudioSuite Plugin for ProTools. You can find it at http://www.uaudio.com/TDM/dolby.html. It is $795 (as usual for that expensive Dolby licensing), but it's VERY high quality and fits right into ones standard ProTools working methods. There might even be a Demo download. They've got a number of other goodies there, too.

  7. thanks for your answers,but ..

how do I get an MP2 from aiff, wave or sdII sound file?

Cornucopia: I'm just trying to make a DVD with some new audio(I do not want to change the video files).
So I have extracted the m2v file and a pcm file (which needs to be replaced),now I just have to reassemble the m2v w/ the new audio file(from pro tools),and that's where I get into trouble,I just can't find any authoring program that can accept that audio file as is .
And of course I don't have the kind of money to purchase smart code or dvdsp.

    thanks again

you can get mp2 audio from the terminal by using the command "mp2enc"

If you dont want to use the terminal, try using ffmpeg -- loading a .wav file in, selecting FAST MPEG-1 as a preset, uncheck the box to encode video and click encode.

[*These apps work in OS9, not so sure about OSX]
You can encode AIFF/SD2 and prob. WAV to MP2 with MPEGGER (formerly M.PECKER), also the old Astarte M.PACK, also SoundJam MP.

Obviously, Discreet's Cleaner can do this kind of job-quite well and in batch-but it's a little overkill, and maybe to much $$ for what you're looking for.

Also good to have in your arsenal:
    SoundHack
    SoundApp

and I recommend that no matter what, you already have QT Pro.

If you have VirtualPC, you could alway use that to fire up any one of a number of PC apps.

    Question:
What are you using to author with-iDVD?Sizzle?
I'm surprised you're having so much trouble with MediaPipe.

    Good luck,

    Scott

  10. hi cornucopia,

I have tried to use ffmpegx but I can't seem to install it(when I am asked to locate the 3 files and I select the locate button I keep getting the following sort of message"applescript error....." .So I then tried w/missing mpeg tools and used the mp2enc but there again, when I press the encode button nothing happens (terminal should launch but it does not)I launched it manually but I keep getting "unknown command " .As with mediapipe I get the same message as for ffmpegx"applecript error ,string....."I have tried soundapp but it does not convert into acceptable file type for either captydvd or sizzle.

I will try your other suggestions.
