When i encode an avi with TMPenc the film goes out of sync i've ripped the audio off with goldweave done a frame scan with virtuadub and that comes up ok. I am running media player 9 these probs only seemed to have started after updating to m/p 9 could this be the prob and if so how can I uninstall media player and go back to older version.

i doubt that mp9 makes troubles with mpeg files, but:
usually software can be deinstalled with the "add/remove programs" dialog which you can reach from start->settings->control-panel
or via "my computer"->control-panel.
however it could be necessary to re-install the version you used before.
you can download older versions directly from the microsoft homepage.
