  1. ok first up, thanks to every1 who answered my last posts, couldnt have done anything without the valuble info

ok first up ill explain my situation. i have a video file [maid in manhattan] that is .avi, here are the specs:

    IMAGE:
    Width: 608
    Height: 256
    AUDIO:
    Duration: 01:45:15
    Bit Rate: VBR 143kbps
    Audio Format: MP3 Encoder
    VIDEO
    Frame Rate: 23.976
    Data Rate: 112kbps
    Video Sample Size: 24bits
    Video Compression: XVID

phew. sorry i just like to give all the details of the file im using.

im trying to make an SVCD of this file. And so the first thing i want to do is cut it half way through. OK i open it in VirtualDub [v.p1.5] the "VBR MP3 will bugger up anything you do" message comes up. so i extract the audio to a .wav file (still using VD). Now i have the video file open in virtualDub and have the Source Audio set to Wav, the file i just created.
but when i come to click play it says no audio decompresser could be found to decompress this audio file. im thinkin wtf ? so..
i open VirtualDub-mo3-freeze and try to play the file - no audio decompresser could be found, i try saving to wav then using wav as source - another error message.
i have just reinstalled my OS (windows XP Pro) and have installed DivX Pro, and most features form Nimo Codec Pack. before i reinstalled my OS, i made a couple of SVCDs fine.
back to the wav file i created with VDub p1.5, here is the strange thing; i cannot open it with Sonic Foundry Sound Forge (that can open almost any thing), but Windows Media Player 9 plays it fine.

i will try to open it with Quicktime Pro 6, and report back
plllleeaaassse can any1 help me with this problem ?!? any help is welcome...
    N.B.
    1. i can open this video file and play it in Windows Media Player
    2. the same problem occurs when trying to open other DivX and Xvid movies i have on my PC...

Are you using Vdub-mp3? If you were you wouldn't get the warning. Try that prog first, then you can try other means of creating the wave file like Goldwave. Just load your Avi, set your sampling rate to what you want then select save...easy. I'm not sure but Soundforge or Besweet might do the same thing.

Are you using "Direct stream copy" or "Full Processing Mode"? Use "Full Processing Mode" and Click on Conversion under the audio tab. Then click on 44100Hz, 16bits, Stereo, and High Quality. Click OK. Then save out your uncompressed WAV file.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

i have now tried VirtualDub MP3 Freeze, VirtualDub Pentum 1.5, and NanDub.
