rigging up the Multiplier on a P4 chipset?

I know the P4 multipliers are "locked" but i've been trying to find out if there is ANY way to "unlock" them so I can overclock using the multiplier. I already have an overclocked system from some tweaks to the FSB and Vcore voltage, but can anyone who knows anything about this let me know if there is ANY way to unlock that multiplier?

P.S. What is the MOST someone has overclocked their P4, and what is the original processing default speed of that chip?

Rob, thanks for the link..that is a GREAT SITE..actually it was the "first" site I checked out when doing my search on the web. Now that you've linked it, I remember checking it out and putting in my system info. The thing is that my results ALSO correspond to many of those with the same or similar hardware.

Many said their max FSB was 165, and that was EXACTLY what my max was. At 166 my system locked up, but at 165 and at a VCore Voltage of about 1.7 I was smooooth sailin'! I was ridin' at about 2.94 GH'z and my system only increased about 10 degrees at it's MAXIMUM. Only got up to about 110 degrees Farenheit so I figured I was fine. Everything was running so smooth. Then when I went to play VOBS off my hard drive I got screetching and pixelation. Some posters said it could be my hard drive, while others said it could be my video card.

Do you think I should overclock my Video Card which is a RADEON 9000 Pro? Because of that "one" issue I am now back to about 2.5 GH'z. Thanks in advance for any info or help you can give.

when you overclock a video card you raise the fsb of the ram thats on the video card.it has nothing really to do with o/c of a cpu.
it could make things worse for you.
its mainly for gamers.
IMO the newer video cards are already so fast,why overclock them.it just makes the life of it shorter.

It depends where the screetching came from. If it was still present with the speakers off then it's definately hardware - I'd look at the hard drive and run a diagnostic on it first. I can't think what would make a screetching noise on a VGA card apart from a duff fan, but I'm probably wrong.

I'd also leave your VGA card well alone - overclocking it will not improve your day to day performance only your performance at games, but I'm not aware of any games that cannot be played because your VGA is too slow!

Thanks again for the info. Well, the screetching went hand in hand with the "pixelation" of the movie off of my hard drive. I'm wondering if a 2.9 GH'z processor was too much for my hard drive then. Once I went back down to about 2.7 GH'z the problem was completely gone...both the pixelation AND the screetching. Since then I have not even had a single problem remotely close to what I had then. I'm just trying to figure out why that happened at 2.9ghz but NOT 2.7 ghz.
