  1. I'm trying to play SVCDs on an Apex 2500. The discs play fine on my JVC player. On the Apex, I am unable to fast forward beyond about 75 minutes on the disc. Also, I usually can't access any PBC chapters after about 75 minutes. And sometimes it just won't play past about 75 minutes.

The Apex player is new, so I'm wondering whether it is defective or whether this is normal behaviour. The SVCDs were created with DVD2SVCD and play fine on my computer and the JVC player. Should I return the Apex?

  2. Hmm - most SVCDs at standard bitrates, only hold about 35 minutes or so on one CD-R. If you have one past 75 minutes it must be low quality.

Did you overburn to get more than the 70 minutes? Some players don't like overburned discs.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  3. Yes, my SVCDs are generally pretty low bitrate, but most are not overburned. In fact, the one disc that is overburned plays fine in the Apex!

Your better off converting to VCD when your file is 75 minutes long. 75 minutes on a SVCD looks horrible.

  5. Actually, most are about 90 minutes long and look pretty good on my daughter's 15 inch TV.

And, isn't 75 minutes the limit on VCDs?

No, 80 minutes is the limit of a VCD. 82 minutes if you overburn your VCD but your VCD might not play correctly in your player if overburned.
