  1. Thanks for the help -- but still can't get my DVD player to play my DVD-R. Here's what I'm doing: smartripper>DVD2oneaving to VIDEO_TS>Burning with Nero 5.5: DVDROM (UDF) 1.02 is partition.
Files burnt are of the type: VTS_01_1.VOB & .IFO * VIDEO_TS.BUP and .IFO

Am i missing something? These are the only programs i am using. My understanding: Smartripper to rip to hard drive, DVD2One to take out menus, ect and make it fit onto 1, and nero to burn so it will play on my DVD (DVD-R compatible). The only palyer i have had sucess playing is the one on my laptop. About 30 bucks worth of DVD-R's in the last 2 days!

    Thanks!

  2. Must be your DVD player IMO. Take a disc that doesn't work on your player and have a friend try it. Your doing everything right.

  3. Also I would try RecordNow or RecordNow Max to burn the DVD-R but that's just me.

  4. I'm on my 3rd recorder -- all DVD-R compatible and new. I've had a few people mention that i might need to encode -- not familiar with that. Could that be a possibility? If so how?

You must create a AUDIO_TS folder to include with the VIDEO_TS folder. The AUDIO_TS folder will be empty, thats ok. Then burn, should be fine after that.

I have 200 DVD-R that run on six different DVD players and none of them have an AUDIO_TS folder. In fact about 50% of the orignal DVD's don't have that folder.

  8. error message: can't play disk.

As to what mode i am ripping: i followed the intruction from one of the guides on this site: smartripper>files>select all> Target file created on desktop>start.

When i put the burnt DVD into my laptop it does not play automatically. I have to go under video folder and click on one of the .VOB files -- i don't know if thats normal.

Also i do have both VIDEO_TS AND AUDIO_TS file

  9. the instructions i used i referenced from this sight (DVD RIP) for everything but burning:http://www.dvd2dvdr.com/DVD2one_Guide.htm

For burning i'm using Nero 5.5 to burn with following instruction: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/146795.php (using only the section pertaining to nero).

    Thanks

  11. so what U R saying is that U have no ifo & bup files??? anyway nero has bad compatibility probs & I wont use it... vob instant cd or recordnow max is your best bet. just use dvddecrptor to rip all the files to the drive then use dvd2one & whatever U want 2 burn the video_ts folder aslong as it aint nero

  12. I use Nero version 5.5.10.15 and have had no problems burning standalone playable DVD-Rs. I rip all of the files using DVD Decrypter, then use Ifoedit and/or DVD2ONE. To make things easy and simple, I switch to Nero Express mode and select the "DVD Files" option. All of the discs I have burned play flawlessly in my Panasonic DVD-RV32 and my Sony DVP-SQ1. I have never created a "AUDIO_TS" folder, but it looks like Nero creates one for you. (I was doing some experimenting with TMPGenc and copied the files from a previously burned DVD-R using Nero. Lo and behold, an AUDIO_TS folder was present!)

Anyways...I have both RecordNowMax DX (came with the Sony DRU-500AX) and Nero. Personally, I prefer to use Nero for files and RecordNow for ISO images. I am by no means an expert and still have a great deal to learn. But, no software application is infallible! You have to consider a lot of other factors if a DVD-R won't play in a particular DVD player.

What I'm trying to say here is don't take everyone's opinions on certain software as fact. In fact, do some experimenting and come to a conclusion on your own. For some folks, it may help to update their software.

Some of the best methods come from trial and error!

  13. Cmonteith,
I had this problem as well, Nero works great for me with vcd's but for some reason my stand alone will not play Nero burnt DVD. There's freeware you can use to replace Nero. I take the the file created by DVD2one and create a disc image through IFOedit, then burn it with the DVD Decyrptor in ISO write mode. Hope this helps.
