  1. I have a copy of the extended lord of the rings dvd. The movie is on two dvd's I would like to make a backup to 1 dvd+r. I have ripped both dvd's with decrypter into separate folders. I know how to resize each individually using instant copy but how do I join the two then resize to fit on 1 dvd. It will be alot of compression but I would like to try it. thanks.

I can't really help you with joing the two discs, but I would like to offer some advice on compressing it. I suggest using 1/2 DVD resolution, which is 352 by 480/576, because the bitrate that you'll need to fit a 3 and a half hour movie on 1 dvd will be close to SVCD bitrates and your dvd will look a whole lot better if it's lower resolution, and 352 by 480/576 is legal to put on dvds so you won't have to worry about compatibility. You'll loose sharpness, but it's not as noticeable as you'd think on a regular TV (not HDTV), and I think it's better than watching a cubist painting.

  3. I did this very thing about 2 months ago, copying the 2 LOTR Extended DVDs to 1 DVD-R. I used DVDdecryptor to rip only the movie. Because the DTS tracks were considerably larger, I kept only the DD track to allow more room for the video. I had to recompress both parts at 2220 in CCE to fit them both onto a single DVD-R using my usual CCE settings. I used Maestro to import both sections along with the AC3 files to make a single DVD-R. If you wanted to keep the subs (recommended), then you would need to use a little bit lower bit rate as I had no room for the subs. Also, if you want to keep the DTS tracks for the better sound, you would need to use a considerably lower bitrate for the CCE recompression. Mine turned out very well as viewed on my HDTV using the 2220 bitrate in CCE. However, I think I would recommend keeping it on 2 DVDRs to retain more of the original quality while keeping the DTS tracks. I did it to a single disk mostly as an experiment.

  4. i am thinking of doing the same thing (2 discs to 1). Could it be done by ripping both discs deleting the bup/ifo files, renaming the vob files on the second disc as a continuation from the first disc (ie if the first disc has vts_01_01 - 03 renaming the 2nd disc to vts_01_04 etc). Get the ifo/bups with ifoedit and run the lot thru dvd2one?

i tried to do it but was going to put each on a seperate disc with dts but im having a prob with audio for the second disc
the first dvd is unusual in that it has both movies and both soundtracks listed when opened with dvd decrypter
i assumed if i picked first set for making disc one and second set on dvd 2 for making second backup it would work -
    DISC 1
    VST_01
    PCG 1(01.41.18)
    PCG 2(01.41.18)

    DISC 2
    VST_01
    PCG 1(01.57.29)
    PCG 2(01.57.29)

obviously there isnt 2 movies on each disc ,at least i think not
any info on this would be appreciated
