  1. Hi!
I'm somewhat of a newbie, and I would like to have these two AVI files that I have on a DVD so I can play it on a DVD player.
What program can I use to do this to have the AVIs recoded to fit on the DVD perfectly (TMPGENC often won't let me shrink it enough) and burn it as a DVD movie such that the movies will play automatically (one after the other) when the player is started with the disc inserted (no custum menus necessary)

    Thanks.

convert the avi's to dvd-compliant mpeg files.

author the dvd the way you want it.

then use DVD2One or DVDShrink to knock it down to the correct size to burn.

how big are these files once you convert them?

  3. Would I use AVItoMPEG or whatever its called to make them into DVD compliant mpeg files?

And to answer your question, if I just tell a generic piece of software (such as SONIC MyDVD) to burn the movie directly, even a 650MB or 90 minute movie can be too big to fit on a DVD...

PS: What's a good piece of software to burn the MPEG files once i've made them? I think MyDVD requires you to make menus (or so it seems), and nero seems to work with VOB files only.

  5. Yeah. By that I mean if you just tell the burning program to "get movie" and you pick an AVI file... It will do the conversion for you, but since there is no compression and bitrates aren't changed, it takes a ridiculous amount of space on the DVD (quality is excellent though).

  6. I tried DVDshrink, and it seems to be a nice piece of software... good tool!

So how would I go by changing a typical AVI file into a DVD compliant mpeg. (any way faster than using TMPGENC)?

    thanks.
