Hi,
I own a Sony DRU500A. 2 months ago, I got a pack of Nashua DVD+R discs and they worked flawlessly. Now, my girlfriend's father also got a Sony DRU500A, and he also decided to go for Nashua +R discs.
BUT...They ALL failed after about 80%.So I tried to burn one at home, failed as well. No matter what software or content, we got Write errors all the time, at the EXACT same position.
He then decided to buy some Bulkpaq DVD+R discs. Same error.
Unfortunately, I returned the Nashua disc to him so he could get a refund, and forgot to read the mediacode with ADVDinfo. So I let him do it, and he told me the mediacode was PRODISC. Same for the Bulkpaqs.
Then I checked one of my "old" Nashua discs: they're Ricoh discs!
So Nashua changed suppliers obviously, but how the hell am I going to tell the difference when I go out to buy discs next time?
Has anyone else encountered similar problems with Nashua/Bulkpaq/Prodisc discs??
In about a week time, I will be able to get one of the faulty discs and read the exact mediacode. I will post that in the Media list.

Prodisc DVD+R (Bulkpaq, Datawrite Generation 1, Eproformance, Smartbuy) seems to be quite bad media. I've heard a lot of complaints on Datawrite "Generation 1" DVD+R which were made by Prodisc but the "Generation 2" with the "RICOHJPNR00" media code seems to be pretty good.
If there is no visible difference between the Nashua Prodisc media and the Nashua Ricoh media I would recommend to not buy Nashua media at all. -
Thank you for replying, -jsl-
Datawrite DVD+R Generation 2 is indeed of very good quality, I own a pack of 25. Mediacode is RICOHJPN00 and they work fine.
I have not had a chance to extensively compare the different types of Nashua media, I will have the opportunity in about a week. As far as I remember, there was a slight difference in media color, but it would be hard to tell the difference if you have nothing to compare the disc to in a store. So I guess no more Nashua for me.
Do you know if the problem occurs with other DVD burners as well? -
Yes, I see. At least I don't have to worry about my drive then!
Although I'm not very happy with a stack of coasters either.
Thanks for pointing those other sites out to me! -
I just posted the Bulkpaq media code in the DVD Media section.
Will post the new Nashua disc ID later on. -
I can tell you this I had two DRU500AX and they could not burn Hkpermedia at all but my Pioneer AO4 could burn them with no problem at all. I do not like the DRU500AX it's buggy

Well, I respect your opinion on that one, but I just want to point out to you that -jsl- mentioned that problems with Prodisc +R media occur with more +R/RW writers, not just with the Sony drive.
