  1. I'm thinking about buying a new dvd player and i saw a nice one that's a dvd/vcr in one. I have a vcr already and wanted to know if it is possible to dub tapes using both the stand alone vcr and the dvd/vcr? Any literature on the subject would be appreciated.

  2. I have the Samsung DVD1000 dvd/vhs combo player. I can tell you right now that you cannot record from dvd to vhs on commercial movies, i.e. rented or store bought dvd's. The Macrovision protection protects the dvd from being copied. There are some hacks on this site for removing Macrovision however I have not found one for my player. Although I have not tested other players, I would seriously doubt that you could defeat the Macrovision protection on other players.

If you are looking for literature, here's a good starting place:

    Hope this helps!

  3. Thanks for the quick reply and i'll check that information out. However, what i wanted to know was could i dub a vhs tape onto another tape using the vcr i already have with the dvd/vcr combo player? I have a couple tapes i wanted to dub onto new blank tapes and wanted to know if it was possible with the combo player. Thanks again in advance.

  4. I don't see why not, unless of course the tape is Macrovision protected, which some are. As a matter of fact, my Samsung has a/v inputs in the front of the player which makes dubbing easy.

What you would do is find your rca (out)jacks in the rear of your existing player and plug them in the front a/v inputs of the combo player. I've done this with camcorder to vhs.

    Hope that helps.

  5. Hey thanks again Mr. Quest. That's what i wanted to hear. I was looking at a Toshiba combo player and it said it also plays vcds. With those capabilities, i'm all set.
