Well at least you get a message, whenever I tried a WAV it crashed and shut down - the only hint was the Windows Event Log that said,
"faulting module quartz.dll, fault address 0x00024af5" - I assume its a bug in MC.

I have tried different sampling rates but with the same result - frameserving didn't work either - I have subsequently disarded MC in favour of the CCE encoder.

I just went back and had another play with MC and managed to get the WAV option working.

I disbled the 'Direct Show' import module (which appears to be the offending module) and now I can open WAV files and encode without errors.

Click on 'Options' -> 'Import Modules' and disable 'Direct Show Import'.

Let me know if it works for you too.

  12. I just tried it with an WAV file only and it worked for me. When I loaded the WAV file the information pane said "AVI Import" instead of the usual "DirectShow Import" I get with AVI files.

I was using MC 1.3.1, Windows XP SP1, DirectShow 9.0

  14. I just re-read my post and it sounds like I am recommending moving to Directx 9.0 Do not move to 9.0 unless you absolutely have to. Some people have experienced MC problems with 9.0. I have not, but other have.

  16. Can you post a little more information? Are you sure that the WAV file is a good file? Can you load it with Goldwave or CoolEdit? What are the file characteristics?

BTW, you could also use TooLame and Toolame GUI to encode Wav into MPEG-2. Its free, see the links in the tool section. I actually think TooLame does a better job to encode MPEG-2 (personal opinion) and I use it when I am just encoding WAV files...

  20. Oops, I meant TooLame does a better job encoding MPEG Layer 2 audio. It only does audio.
