  3. I like both DVD Decrypter and Smartripper.

However, since I got my Lite-On DVD ROM Drive, I am forced to use Smartripper most of the time because of a know issue with DVD Decrypter and Lite-On DVD drives.

Can you tell me what the issue with DVD decrypter and LiteOn drives is please. If it is the 'Mismatched region' problem you can solve it with firmware (I did)

  6. I use Smartripper all the time as it was the first (and only) ripper I tried. It works fine for me ... so why change!

  7. Smartripper has a slightly easier interface for most things, but for straight ISO backups, decrypter is the program. Plus the region free patch feature for smartripper doesn't work on all dvds when I play the files using powerdvd, dvd decrypter seems to have worked on all thus far. So the short of the story is that I use smartripper for most tasks, but when I run into trouble or need an ISO backup, I use decrypter.

there are certain discs smartripper couldn't read but decrypter could and vice versa on my pc.
best of both worlds i say, they are not exactly huge progs unless we talk DOS

  9. Crazeplaya,

DVD Decrypter give the error "Brute Force Cracking Failed", or something very similar. I can take the same disk and put it into my Sony Burner (which defeats the purpose of why I bought the Lite-On) and it will rip fine.

I can also rip the same disk with SmartRipper and it doesn't have the problems either.

  12. I like DVD Decrypter, there is the capability to strip out multiple PGC's and angles to VOBs instead of an m2v file.

I have been using Smartripper for some time. Also tried DVD Decrypter. There is so much more facilities in Smartripper that I don't find a use for DVD Decrypter.

Also, for some reason, SmartRipper appears to rip faster on the Pioneer 116 drive I have compared to DVD Decrypter. Any idea as to why this may be?

    Famous last words....

I HAD been using SmartRipper for some time. Until last night.

SmartRipper succeeded in ripping junk out of perfectly good DVDs in a row. And it never comlaint the least bit. I did a backup of 7 DVDs on disk. Then tried to play them with PowerDVD. It played the intro movie and then darkness and some garbled background sound.

Tried opening one of the VOBs with VirtualDUB (MPEG Mod) and after parsing the MPEG stream without problems, played back darkness as well.

    File Information showed that the frame resolution was :P 4096 x 12184 :P .

Ripped the same DVDs with DVDDecrypter and the result was perfect.

I am still going to use SmartRipper to "rip" DVDs that DVDDecrypter backs up on disk, but never again rip DVDs with SmartRipper.

  17. Sasi you might want to double check your smartripper settings just to make sure you haven't accidentally changed anything. I did that and got garbled non-decrypted backups because I forgot I changed a setting for checking for keys every vob and instead I had a key check just once...
