  1. Hello.

I'm trying to convert my Music Videos (about 4-5 minutes long) from Mpeg files (50+meg) to Avi files.

I tried the guide here https://www.videohelp.com/avi2divx.htm but an Mpeg at 34meg, turns into an DivX/Avi at 34meg.

Ultimately I want the smallest file I can get with about the same quality, I don't mind a little loss.

    thnx

You must lower the video bitrate or/and audio bitrate to reduce the file size.

    Example:
A 5 minute video that you want to be 20 MB.

    Open the https://www.videohelp.com/calc
Set the video length to 5 minutes.
    Change to divx under type.
Click on the advanced mode button.
Set the custom size to 20 MB.
Set the Other iso files to 0.
Set the audio bitrate to want you are going to use for example 128kbit/s.
Now you will get the calculated bitrate that you should use in virtualdub under DivX video config -> output bitrate(in this example it would be 418 kbit/s).

I wouldn't go below 400 kbit/s but it depends on your source video also and what resolution you are using. Try different bitrates and see how it looks like.
