  1. im not asking this in terms of "you get what you pay for," but since vcd movies usually have to span 2 disks, is it worth the hassel of switching disks also is it very noticable when the disks need to be switch - will it happen right in the middle of a scene or is there some sort of transition.

  2. Well, it depends on the person. Personally, I HATE switching discs during a movie. It's sooo annoying and yes, it's noticeable! Since there are HQ (nice as hell) DivX 1-CD Rips, I don't see a big reason for a standard 2-VCD rip. But that's b/c I do everything on my computer. No standalone player over here!

Depending on where the movie is ripped...it's usually after a scene and not during. At least, that's where I've always tried to rip.

  3. question about nice as hell divx 1-cd rips, can they be converted to play on a standalone dvd player using only one disk. i dont care too much about how nice the picture is (a friend of mine got digital cable, and i never really did notice a difference, at least nothing that would be worth the money) by the way, the reason not for using vhs which would achieve the same result is it takes up way too much room to store and because i have a cdr(ill leave it at that)

  4. If you have the time you can create a XVCD or XSVCD that can contain a 2h movie on 1 disc that can be played in most stand alone DVD Players. I use FlaskMPEG with BBMpeg. I set it at 23.98 fps/ quality 10/ bitrate 1600000/ audio bitrate 64 (bitrates kbps), SVCD, Variable bitrate enabled).
These setting produce good quality movies for the size. I did Exit Wounds w/menu , behind the scenes, and DMX video (All from DVD) and it fit on a 80min CDR (The File for Exit Wounds is only about 450mb

The only drawback I've really noticed is I can't FF/REW, but I the disc is in I usaually watch the whole movie anyway.
