Hi,
I was wondering what people recomend for editing captured video. I use virtualdub to capture my film and then use tmpgenc to encode the avi to mpeg-2. But i was wondering what program would i be able to edit, change clips and add title screens as such, without the program reencoding it and losing quality. I have tried certain ulead products which are fantastic allowing me to change clips and add transitions but the quality of the finished video is not even near the quality of encoding with tmpgenc.
Any help would be appreciated
Tim

Adobe After Effects.

If you are working with DV, you can edit and add titles and transistions using Ulead products, just don't render to Mpeg from them.
Render out your complete project back to DV avi's.
Only the parts that have been modified (transistions or titles overlayed) will be re-rendered. The rest of the footage will be copied digitally from the original file. Keep it DV.
Then,
Once this is done, use TMPG to render to Mpeg. -
The source i use is a analog camcorder
. I then use virtualdub to capture as a avi. From what i understand now is that in ulead products only title and transititions that are added will be encoded. Can i still use them if my source is analog? (maybe a silly question)
Thanx,

I go with unclebud here.
You have used the Ulead products - stick with them to do all your editing & then use TMPgenc for the encoding.
The source is irrelevant once the capture to AVI has taken place - Ulead will edit an AVI.
One tip - if you are using Ulead Videostudio 6 or above you could try the new Ulead frameserver plugin from videotools.net. That enables you to go straight from Ulead editing mode (complete with effects & such) to TMPGenc encoding without re-rendering first. It's worked very well for me so far as it has eliminated one possible source of audio synch problems & saves vast amounts of rerendering time.

I have found myself asking this same question reciently. I used to have a TV Wonder VE which I used VirtualDUB to do all my capturing. I would simply Capture at 320.240 in raw RGB, then edit in Primere. But I just bought an AIW 9700, so I would like to learn nwe ways to do things. Mostly I would rather not be limited to only two hours of video doing it the way I used to. So I tried capturing in MPEG2 and MPEG1, but Primere does not like to edit these files so much. Its tough to scroll through the video ect... Should I take one extra step with the format?

Hi All:
After looking and trying and then again looking... finally I found an editor that is cheap and reliable ie. does the job as its supposed to and BIGGEST of all... ITS EXTREMELY LIGHT WEIGHT not like the ulead and adobe products. I use mpeg editing mostly so its not that expensive to register but mpeg2 is rather expensive.
But no rerendering and all that funk and waster of time.
Its called "WOMBLE MPEG VCR".
WOW!!!!!!
Peace.
Bob
