I have just installed a Sony DW-U10A. When I first used it to read a CD my machine locked up. I upgraded the power supply to 350W since when it has only done it once, but that is once too many. Also i discovered that if I reboot the machine with a dvd in the drive which I had previously written, the machine freezes with the disk access led and the DW-U10A led both permanently on. Any clue as to what might be wrong? The drive is secondary master, with an hp tape drive as secondary slave. I have two hard disks on the primary ide cable. I am running Windows 98.
I have no problem writing cds and dvds.

I am replying to my own post, in case someone else is helped. I tried to solve my problems by adding a promise pci-ide card so I could put my old cd-rom drive on the pc. This had all sorts of other problems,
they all went away when I changed two bios settings ( amibios). I set:

PnP aware OS ? > yes
PCI IDE BUS MASTER > enabled

since when I have been (cross fingers, and touch wood ) trouble free.
