if i want to play mpegs on my player is it sufficient to download from net and copt to disc using cd burn facility in win xp home. if not can someone tell me how to do it? i ask because i have had mixed success with this method

Very few DVd players can handle raw MPGs - Cyberhome is one that can.
You will have to create VCD's or SVCD's with them. -

am i right in thing that if i download mpeg from the net and create a vcd using nero/stomp/eas cd etc. it will play in my home dvd?? sorry to be so dim but this is a bit new!!!

Maybe. If the mpeg is VCD or SVCD compliant and if your player will play them. Check your player in DVD Players section.
