HELP NO SOUND when hook on TV

Ok well I just bought aportable computer...I want to hook it up to tv so I can watch my dvds through it....but only the picture comes out...the sounds is from my portable and frankly not good! Do i need aspecial splitter or cable....or is it normal?

Yeah you do need something! when u hooked up your laptop it's normal if there's no sound. The VIDEO signal will be sent to the TV, however the AUDIO will still come out of the
laptop. To improve audio quality, you can either hook up computer speakers to enhance the sound, or purchase an appropriate adapter cable to hook the laptop's audio out port(s) into your TVs AUDIO IN ports (if available)In order to fix this you're going to need to get one 1/8-inch stereo mini-jack to two phono plugs adapter. Connect the mini-jack end of this chord to the audio output or earphone jack of your sound card. Then connect the two RCA cables directly to your TV (or stereo if you have one). Make sure that the volume control isn't muted on your laptop, fire up the DVD, grab a bowl of popcorn, and you should be ready to go. let me know....
