  1. Hi,

I'm hoping someone here might be able to shine some light on a problem I am having.

I am capturing VHS material (both movies and TV shows) via a DV camcorder using Scenalyzer Live and the Main Concept DV codec and then feeding an Avisynth script into TMPGEnc. Overall I have been very pleased with the finished product but I am noticing that in areas where there is low motion, there is a kind of "slow motion" or flickering effect for a lack of a better description. I have tried many tests and have pinpointed the problem to the framerate. I am finding that when I convert the material to 23.976fps by inserting telecide() and decimate() into my script, the problem is gone and the picture is much cleaner, but every now and then the image skips, obviously due to the missing frames. The way I determine which material can be converted is by using VDub and stepping through frame by frame looking for a 3:2 pattern, which it seems to do. Is there a more accurate way of determining if a captured avi file can be converted from 29.97 to 23.976? I read a post here about how some TV shows and movies don't always follow a certain pattern. Also, if it can't be converted, has anyone experienced a similar problem and know of a way to compensate for this? I have tried using fielddeinterlace(), but this does not seem to help.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.
