  1. Ok, I rip a DVD. The contents easily fit a dvd-r disc so I don't really need dvd2one. I can just use IFOedit, which I normally do. The thing is, dvd2one is so much easier to use, less work, always get the right size and so on.

My question is, does dvd2one ALWAYS re-encode the main film even though all the material would fit on the dvd-r as it is?

If the quality is always lowered with dvd2one, then it would make sense to only use it for 2 hour+ movies.

    Anyone get me here?

  2. well when you used dvd2one do you keep everything? like the extra audio tacks and subs. if not the movie will get smaller because you are removing things.

  3. If a movie is dvd5 you don't need DVD2One. Just use DVD Decrypter in ISO mode, burn the ISO file with DVD Decrypter and your back-up is the same as the original. No compressing needed.
When a movie is over 110 minutes then use DVD2One.

  4. missing the point,

First off - I want the main movie, english ac3 sound and english subs

I do not want menus, die menus die, they suck plenty. No extras, no nothing.

If the main movie and sound fits on a single dvd-r, say it's 3.5 gb in size, then dvd2one is not needed. I know this.

The reason I use dvd2one anyway is
1: get rid of pesky menus
2: easier than ifoedit to use

However, I don't want to go this way if dvd2one insists on re-encoding anything you throw at it.

If the filesize is below 4.38gb, does dvd2one remove the extras while leaving the main film intact or does it mess with it's bitrate anyway?

    Make more sense?

  6. It's my understanding from reading these boards for quite some time and making heavy use of dvd2one, that it does NOT transcode (reduce the movie quality) if it doesn't need to. If it will fit, it just does a 1:1 copy of the video data.

Because I feel the same way about menus, I run all my movies, even DVD5s through dvd2one. It makes stripping unwanted subtitles/audio so very easy. I also used to use ifoedit, but, not anymore... 8)

  7. One time I had a film that wouldn't play, just the vobs (4gigs) & a tiny IFO file were all that I got. So I ran it through dvd2one & whatever it did, it generated the new files for it & it played just great.

Nuke, after ripping out the menus and etc, I suggest using copytocd/dvd, this will allow you to copy what you want without shrinking the movie at all. http://www.copytocd.com/ This is a free program which you can use for 1 month.
