    Hello!

I noticed under this topic some people refer to a codec of Xvid. Does Xvid = DivX? Or is this some kind of hacked codec?

    Thanks,
    Tearren

Xvid is a free, open source codec. (Some people report it better than Divx)

You will need a Xvid codec, may I recomind their's a very good one at

Go to the downloads section and download the K-Lite codec pack.

Xvid, as said before, is opensource while divx is pay-, ad- and/or spyware.
You get some features for qualityencoding just for money or for let them spy your hard/software (noone knows).
The quality, by now is even. But Xvid is slower in encoding, and maybe more mhz demanding for decoding(idontknow).
So at this time it's a political question wether to support opensource or not.
In quality meanings you have to wait if the OS community improves their product faster then the divx developers. They seem to be in fear of xvid cos their new version was not more then a fast shot beta with features not realy working and awfull buggy.
    Keep on capping it,
    I'll keep on downloading it.
