I have tried all settings to make my VOB file as an 4:3 352x288 (VCD/PAL) outcome mpeg. I always get the stupid letterbox that I don't want. What settings did I miss?

I use mpeg2enc for the decoding.

VOB letterboxing is ticked ON by default for mpeg2enc encodes. Uncheck it.

  4. Is your source material 4 x 3 or 16 x 9? If you're converting 16 x 9 to 4 x 3, you're still going to have the black bars but they'll be "burned" in.

  5. If you're using "QT decode" option then black bars are always added as needed in order to preserve aspect ratio for playback on TV.
