    How can I cut out commercials or unwanted parts of the scenes from .avi DV files captured from camcoder? Thanks.

    After you capture your DV video to your hard drive, run Scenalyzer (original free version) to create scene detected avi's. Pick out the avi's with the commercials you want to delete and delete them. Take all remaining avi's into an NLE and do what you want.

    They also have a capture utility called Scenalyzer Live which will capture and split the avi on the fly. It's about $35.
