way do people use xvidsto encoed films with, surely they must no how much trouble ther r causeing people u just need to look round thus forum for that. they must b another codec out ther thatthey could use instead ov xvid?

It's probably because somebody who knows what he's doing can get better results (higher quality at the same size or the same quality at a smaller size) with xvid than with divx. That said, the number of people using xvid who really do know enough to benefit is probably pretty small, just like the number of people who really know how to tweak MPEG encoding is pretty small.
