    Would it be possible for a transcoder type program like DVD2one or PIC7 to change resolution of certain parts from full D1 resolution to half D1, or is a real encoder needed to do this?

    For long movies it could be an improvement on just trancoding. Sure you lose half of the resolution, but blockiness would be less, right? Could be nice to change menu's to quarter resolution to save space!

    Frame size does not reduce file size,you get the same size files in I/2D1 as you would get in Full D1.
