Newbie needs help (lots of it ).

I don't know the terminology as well as I should, but here's my situation.
I have created some DVD videos of my home movies using Pinnacle Studio 8.
I would like to be able to get the mpeg2 files back from one of these disks.

Is there a way to get the mpeg2 files back off the DVD's I created without any loss in quality (if I were to burn them back to another DVD it would be the same as the original).

Someone on another site told me TMPGEnc would do this, but I couldn't figure out how.

So what I need is something that will give me the mpeg2 files without any loss of quality, and is extremely easy to use (or has really good step by step instructions).

Thanks for any help you can give me.

  2. What do you want the mepg-2 files for? If its just to copy, you can simply copy the entire DVD to your HD and burn back to a blank DVD.

If its for editing you could try this:

copy all the .vob files from the DVD to your HD. Start Tmpgenc and select file->mpeg tools.

Select the simple demultiplex tab. Select one of the vob files as the input and make sure the output files point to soemwhere sensible. Click run. You should now have an m2v file containing the mpeg-2 video and another file containing the audio in whatever format it was in (wav, mp2, ac3). Repaet for the other VOB files.

If required you can re-mux back to a standard mpeg-2 stream using the simple multiplex tab.

    Hope this helps.
