  1. Trying to burn a 23.976 fps/ 640x272/ mp2 with PCMwav audio/ non-interlace encode (for progressive scan dvd player) to a dvd+rw.
I have tried Ulead dvdmf2, dvdMaestro, and ifoedit with nero. Dvdmf2 and dvdmaestro say "error converting video or not dvd compliant" and will not author the dvd. ifoedit authors it just fine, but when burning with nero it says "compatibility test failed" but will still burn the dvd. Then it won't play on my dvd player or in PC.
I have tried converting the movie to 720x480 (dvd standard full resolution) but the source is 640x272 xvid and resizing the film causes jerkiness and loss of audio sync.
Any suggestions on what programs to use or what may be wrong/non-compliant with the converted file? Is there a way to resize from xvid 640x272 to 720x480 without the jerky playback/loss of audio sync? Believe me, I've searched and tried EVERYTHING....

    Thanks

No, the LOTR Two Towers screener you downloaded is not DVD compliant. It needs to be resized. For best results and as little "inflation degradation" as possible, encode to 704x480 in TMPGenc, centering and keeping aspect ratio. This will set the letterbox properly and encode your video so that it looks the way it's supposed to.
You have to do the audio in headac3he of course... it's ac3 and tmpg will choke on it...

    good luck!!

I would suggest you use AVISynth, or VirtualDub to do the resize. You can preview your results immediatly, rather than wasting hours/days in TMPGenc to view the results. This way, you can preview your resized output. 640x272 is a common size for Divx/Xvid posts in the newsgroups. This doesn't necessarily mean it's copyrighted material. It could be a footbal game for all we know. It does tend to fit nicely on a CD at that res, where the full DVD resolutions do not. Just resize your file and then drop it into the encoder of choice. Check the Guides section (Divx To ...).

Keep in mind that your source is 23.976 frames per second (FILM) progressive. Your output MPEG should use PULLDOWN to be compliant in your dvd player. Do not try to convert the framerate to 29.97 fps using any other method than pulldown.
Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...
