According to the DVD2One site, the newer version dos'ent seem to be much different from the original.Except a new feature to choose the destination size, which sounds pretty good.

I heard that if there was some way to reserve some file size for the extras&menus. That it would be easy to manually add them in and have it work.

Like ajusting the settings to where the movie is only 3 GB in file size, instead of taking up the whole disc. That way over 1 GIG is still availble for all the menues&extras to be put in.

There's a program called Make-It-Easy tha allows you to save the entire movie with menu/extras now when run with DVD2ONE.

DVD2one is a nice product and definetly worth the investment. If you want the entire movie use InstantCopy. This product also does a super job. Not as good as a CCE encoder but very nice all the same. InstantCopy will cost you $20. How can you go wrong. Just search this board for $20 to see the rebate offer from J&R.

Okay i found it finally. But Wtf is this crap?

"determine the amount of space left in the original directory. That is the "Extras" size.Padding of the DVD2One source is used to ensure enough space is left for the extras."

WTF? how the hell am i supposed to do that? "Easy" my a**!

*yawns* Oh well.I guess i'll call it a night,i'm too tired to stay up for the next 3 hours to figure out what the hell this stupid program is talking about.

  9. There are some threads in the doom9.org forum on how to use it, I would look through there. I am sorry that I cannot give a more definitive answer, since I neither have nor use the program. But I hope this helps some.

    You ignorant bastard.
Some guy spends his free time to creating a superb program for free and you're too f*cking retarded to use it so you insult it?
I'm not even gonna' waste my time by explaining it to you, you anal pr*ck, seeing as though it's so easy even a monkey could do it.

On reflection I think I'll demonstrate how ignorant you actually are.
Once you remove the main vobs, you determine the amount of space left in the original directory, ie the total mb size of files left in the original ripped folder. This mb size is the amount of padding you add to ensure you leave enough space for the extra's.
One dvd2one has run you remove this padding and et voila, the menu's/chapters/extra's etc. will fit in this available space.
    Doh!
    Feel stupid?
    Good (or in your langauage)...

    By your standards yes, maybe.
I don't doubt yo've tested it exhaustively, otherwise you wouldn't be coming to such a conclusion
Unilke yourself I don't have a HDTV, neither do I have a modified basement with a 62" plasma screen-thingamybob and a $2000 hole in the bank balance which is now in the form of a couple of disks from CCE.
My backups are generally of disney, therefore the audience is not that discerning.
The quality of dvd2one is a very good quality, but clearly not for you.
Present company excluded perhaps but posters perhaps need to get a grip as to other people's requirements and more so opinions.
    My first child was one on the 17th Feb, and I find him far more entertaining than sitting in front of a computer backing up dvd's;
dvd2one has given me the flexibility to back up dvd's in a very short space of time quickly.
That's all I want from a programme (menu's and chapters buttons for the sake of 300mb would be nice too!)
What's no good for the goose may be good for the gander, or something along those lines.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hope this is clear.

1.) Rip the DVD with DVD Decrypter in file mode so you get al files

2.) Look at the file structure in Explorer, you need to identify the main vob files.
They appear as a series of 7 or 8 vob's,that's the actual episodes

3.) Move those vob's to a directory named "Source"

4.) You should keep Make-It-Easy open thru-out this process. Start Make-It-Easy and navigate to the sourcdirectoy you created, select the first vob.

5.) In version 0.15 put in the size of the menu extras, that will be the remaining file size of the
directory where you ripped the DVD after you move the vob's to the source directory.

6.) Make-It-Easy will then fill in the amunt of padding needed, click Pad Original Vob Set.

7.) Make-It -Easy will add the padding to the vob's in your source directory.

8.) Now that your source directoy is padded you need to create ifo files for the new vob's so they can be opened in DVD2ONE.

9.) Open IFOEDIT and Create IFO Files, navigate to the sourcdirectory and select the first vob and click O.K.
IFOEDIT will create four ifo files for your source directory.

10.) Look at files IFOEDIT created, they must all use the same VTS number, for example the ifo files will be VTS_01
but the vob files will probably be VTS_02. Change the ifo files to VTS_02,this is required to open the source directory in DVD2ONE.
Start DVD2ONE and select the source directory as your source, create a directory called Destination on your HD
Use that directory as the destination directory in DVD2ONE

11.) Run DVD2ONE to trancode the vob files.

12.) Select the Destination directory in Make-It-Easy,Step #4 "Remove Padding" and click remove padding.

13.) Open your destination directory and look at the vob files after the padding has been removed.
They must use the same name as your original vob files. The files in your destination directory will be VTS_01.
But the files in your source directory will probably be VTS_02. Rename the files in destination directory to VTS_02.

14.) Move the vob files from your destination directory and put the in the directory where ripped the DVD.

15.) In Make-It-Easy goto step #5,open the original ifo file from the directory you ripped the DVD to.
It will probably be VTS_02_0.IFO and click update.

  19. wulf109,

Why go through all this trouble with makeiteasy. You don't need it anymore with the new version of DVD2one you can specify file size..

The point is to keep the menus very important for episode DVD's. You need Make-It-Easy for that. The new version does allow you to specify file size but does not provide for saving menus.

Yes it does all you need is ifoedit dvd2one and ifoupdate. No need for padding then unpadding.

Thank You JDobbs for the program but you can do it now without Make it easy as NYPlayer said but......You can do a whole movie with DVD2one but it is somewhat complicated because you have do some math and run dvd2one on each set of vobs (renaming as required) making the the desired size to retain the maximum quality for main movie. Then you must run Infoedit on each set of vobs when completed to create correct IFOs and get vts.
If it sounds rather complicated that is because it is, I am doing MUMMY now. I choose this film because of all the extras and I enjoy beating my head against the wall. Still the answer to the question is YES it can be done with dvd2one! The larger answer is use instant Copy , all you need to do there is throw out all unwanted audio and subs, shrink the quality of the extra video and the program does the rest.
    Hope this makes sense

EDIT: Just as an attempt to clarify, you could just shrink the main movie and re-introduce the extras but that would defeat the purpose of the whole thing. Because you need quality in the main movie not the extras therefore shrinking the extras as much as possible leaving maximum main movie space!!

And have you auctually attempted it yourself?

Unfortunitly DVD2One does some funny things in the whole process.Which make such a possibleity seem unlikely....

I'm with you there wulf, I still use MakeItEasy and don't pad, simple.
Either way is fine it's just MakeItEasy is a one stage process, and I prefer it
