is there a way to take out the just the vocals in a song but leave the music.

Several audio programs can do it. I know Gold Wave has Remove Vocals function.

Ask this on any of the audio editor forums and you'll get flamed. It's a groaner.Basically, the trick that all these programs do doesn't work well at all.

Much better to gat a karaoke version of the tune. Try www.singingstation.com where you can download songs for a couple bucks apiece. I've done the "vocal extraction thing" before, and the results usually aren't pretty, but if you HAVE to, try YoGen's vocal remover - it's easy to use, fast, and has a function that keeps some of the bass intact.
