  1. My Liteon DVD-ROm started ripping at 1.9X AND you can't do anything else while it rips because it uses up most of the CPU (Intel P4 1.9Ghz).

Before that it ripped at 8X and I could do other things. I am baffeled.

A while ago, I had a similar problem BUT it ripper at 3x and I still could run other programs. I did WinXP system restore for 1 week earlier and it started working again.

Basically I installed SimCity 4 and a new flash upgrade for my Pioneer A04.
The pioneer DVD-R burns at 4.0X

Does anyone know what the program may be?

  2. Check that your DMA settings haven't changed and there are no conflicts - it is possible that reflashing the drive made Windows redetect it... twice... or something like that (seen it before, the resulting conflict gave Windows a headache, deleting one from the system control panel applet resolved the problem).

And 4x on an A04 ? I don't think so - 2x, maybe... but if you can get 4x out of an A04, I think Pioneer (and me !) would be very interested to know how you did that* !

Hmmm... if you've flashed it with the wrong firmware, that probably wont help.

*Not possible. 2x max on that recorder.

My Liteon started doing the same thing. The DMA mode had switched to PIO and I couldn't change it back. "DMA mode if available" was even selected but made no effect.
The way I fixed it was using System Restore until it changed.
Apparently another, and more prefered way, is to reboot with the DVD unplugged, switch off, reconnect DVD and reboot. try that

    good luck

  5. winxp sucks trust me. I switched back to win2000 partially cuz of this PIO mode switching all the time.

Anyway if you wish to stay with winxp then in device manager delete the secondary ide channel (if that's the one the dvd-rom is on) and then reboot and let it redetect it again and then reboot.

I've posted about this several times but almost no one has listened, here we go one more time.

Windows will time out and kick you out of DMA mode and not even give you a choice to go back. Best and easiest way to fix it is to goto device manager and remove all your harddrive controllers, reboot and let them redetect, this will have it set everything back the way it should be.

This method has worked several times for me so far. Hope it helps.
