  1. I need a new DVD-ROM Drive and have determined, based on this forum, that the Lite-On 166S would be a good drive.

    However, there are two models...

    LTD-166S and
    XJ-HD166S

    Is there a difference?

Also, can I get an OEM version with no software? Or are there drivers and such that I will need?

    Thanks a million in advance,

    Phillip

Lite-on joined forces with JVC for DVD drives to become JLMS. This change also showed up in model numbers where the LTD was replaced with XJ-HD. My LTD-165 is great.

The Lite-on site has nothing about DVD drives.

    This is the correct site.

  5. Thanks for the responses.

I have ordered an LTD-166S from J&R for $40.00 including shipping.

The L116X drive at $23 is a great deal, but they wanted almost $14 to ship the thing. I guess it is a matter of principle with me, but I couldn't pay $23 for something and then that much to shop it. Just give me a reasonable price and charge appropriate shipping.

    Again, thanks for the help,

    Phillip

  6. Yes the models are just where DVD drives are now a joint venture with JVC...

My LTD-163 now shows as XJ-HD163 with the latest firmware.

All DVD firmware has now moved to a separate JVC Lite-on site.
