  1. I've been capturing using the How to Capture with an ATI All-In-Wonder Card, and they capture to mpeg just fine. But when I go to convert it to avi with VirtualDub, it freezes on me after about 20-30mb EVERY time.

Now, I've isolated the problem to audio. I compress with Divx 4.12 with no problem, but the only way I can keep it from freezing is to use Full Processing Mode under audio, but then select Uncompressed PCM.

So, consequently, I'm left with .avi's that are bigger than the original mpgs.

When I capture to mpeg, it captures audio at : 44.100 khz, 16Bit, Stereo.

Can anyone tell me A) what would be the ideal thing to compress with, and B) how to figure out what format I should use.

    System Specs:
    - ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500
    - Intel P4, 2.26GHz
    - 512 RAM
    - 80gb HDD space (15.6 free)

    Try GSpot to find out

  3. Allright, I ran GSpot and it says:

    Codec: PCM Audio
    Bitrate: 1411 kb/s (705/ch x 2 ch)
    Fs: 44100 Hz

What would be best to use to compress?

    Try this 2:
    MPEG Layer-3(frauenhofer) or Lame MP3.

    you can find codecs here:

  5. That is a high audio bitrate - try 384kbs or lower for (S)VCD at 256kbs
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  6. Hmm... I tried recompressing using both the codecs suggested, each at the bitrate suggested, and all 4 times, it froze at the same spot.
