  1. I just got the sony 500a and I've been trying to backup an authored dvd with recordnow max (4.6). For some reason, whenever I try to burn the dvd with all the vob and ifo files in a "video_ts" folder, recordmax gives me a "Data Job Terminated with errors" error. I tried just putting any junk files in the folder (ie, a doc file), and it still gives me the same error message. On the other hand, I can pretty much burn any file, (including the same ifo and vob files that I couldn't burn before) as long as they're not in a video_ts folder. The other strange thing is if the video_ts folder is empty, then it burns fine. Is this somehow RecordMax's way of making sure people can't burn dvd's? Please help if you have experienced this before.

I've burned several home DVDs and backups of commerical DVDs (which I own) using RecordNow. However, my first few attempts at this using RecordNow resulted in some error (which I can't remember now) and refused to even start to burn the DVD. My problem, as I discovered, was that my VIDEO_TS folder was missing VIDEO_TS.ifo and VIDEO_TS.BUP files. Once I created and added these files everything worked fine. Also, I included an AUDIO_TS folder (which was empty) at same (root) level as the VIDEO_TS folder. Having this folder doesn't hurt ... not having ... I'm not sure?. Also, make sure your AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder names are in all CAPS.

Not experienced that problem, try downloading the dx version from your disk thats the one i use or maybe thats the one your using, try the following this is what i do for doing backups:

come out of the wizard, select data add files folders then find you VIDEO_TS file add it dont add the files in the folder just select the whole folder , in multisession select new volume hit the red button and away you go. Never had a problem except for a couple of bad discs.

  4. Thanx, I'll try that tonight. So when I add the video_ts folder, should I actually open the folder, or should I just highlight the folder, then click add?

I'm not sure I understand your question. To "add" the VIDEO_TS folder to the burn in RecordNow just highlight the folder in Windows Explorer and "drag and drop" into the RecordNow Window. All files in that folder will be included. The VIDEO_TS.ifo and VIDEO_TS.bup need to inside the VIDEO_TS folder. Also, the AUDIO_TS folder (empty) needs to be at the same level as the VIDEO_TS folder. Just create that in Windows Explorer >> File > New > Folder.

I am having this exact same problem, only problem is, I have burned many times w/ simply adding the VIDEO_TS file to the data disc and burning. Now for some reason an error pops up instantly everytime and says that either the media is incompatible or dirty (both of which are false becuase the discs I try are new and from batches of discs that I have already done several burns with). I have done several good burns w/o the AUDIO_TS folder being present, do you think it will make a difference now for some reason? If it is a data disc, why would the program care what is present? It seems like it would just burn it no matter what it is because it is data.

  7. tw, I believe that your problem is within way how you create your backup. There is some option in RecordNow DX that will not let you burn DVD Movie (if there is VIDEO_TS folder) with incorrect files. Missing files or something like that. Some people say it is good (so you make no coeasters). So check your method and if you use IfoEdit, don't forget "Get VTS Sectors" button.

  8. For some reason, Recordnow distinguishes a normal folder and one that reads "VIDEO_TS". Because it doesn't matter what content I put in the folder (even if it's empty, the icon forthe video_ts folder is different from any folder with a different name. (The video_ts folder has this folder icon with a music sign embedded in it).

Axlish, have you managed to burn workable dvd with recordnow? If so, what is your workaround.

donedro, I use maestro and then ifoupdate to author my dvds. I'm not sure what else I'm missing besides whatever these programs spit out. I don't need a BAK file in the folder, do I? I'm pretty sure I included every file in the folder. Wonder if there's penalty in putting extra files in the folder. Also, do you know of any way to disable that protective function from RecordNow?
    Thanx

  9. I would not recomend you to turn it off, but here it is (if it is the correct one):

Tools / Options / Data Disc / Recognize the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders per the DVD specification

Maybe you can list all files that you have in your VIDEO_TS.

  10. donpedro,
I think you're exactly right. I was playing around with the option menu just 2 seconds before I came back to the forum, and then came across that option. Right now, it's in the process of burning. Don't know the result yet, but at least it's burning. Thank you for everyone's help. I'll post if it works.
