Hi,
I have a JVC XV-S300BK and when I play SVCDs half way trhough the disk it starts freezng and skipping, after about 3-5 mins it stops and the rest of the movie plays fine. The only thing that I am thinking it may be is that the player does not like 800min cds, have tried many makes of cds and makes no differance. The only thing that I tried is making cds 740 min length instead of 800. Has anyone else had this experience?

I've had no problem playing svcd on my jvc using any length cdr.
Is the mpeg ok when you view it on your pc before burning? If so, then your problem lies in the burning - either the software or the media you are using.
BTW, what bitrate is the mpeg?

I normally use DVD2SVCD and the default settings, although I have dropped to the bit rate to see if that helped, I have tried every app from VCDEASY to Nero to CDRWIN. Same with them all, also tried different media, TDK, Verbatim, Memorex. same problems. To be honest I can't remember if the player was always like this, but for last couple of months there is always a stutter with freeze frames and skipping about one quarter to half way into the movie, doesn't last long but drives my wife nuts.
Also get this with downloaded SVCDs
Any help welcome

Try:
Smartripper to rip the DVD, then DVD2AVI to get a video and wav file for TMPGEnc to author your mpg.
Worked all the time for me!

Rob
p.s. the fact that you mentioned downloaded files makes me think that it may be a frame rate problem.... -
I have the JVC XV-S302 and have also this problem i read a lot of this problem, i read also that when you wanna play the disc you not push the play button but the one button on you remotecontrol....it helps a lot but not everything so is there somebody who knows this ....PLEASE

I had this same problem when i burned my svcds at 4X. About 29-30 mins into the 40 minute disc it would start jittering and skipping. It annoyed me too... I also had a problem with the player not wanting to eject the disc, without powering down the player first. What I do now is burn at 2X and the movie plays perfect all the way through
I use Nero and TDK CD-R's. This solved both of my problems... good luck to ya.

I've had very good luck with 4X on Fuji media (and before that Memorex). Tried once at 2X for the heck of it and it came out terribly, so taken together with the post just above this, you can see YMMV depending on any number of factors. 800 min. disks using Nero.
Question: The manual point-blank says PAL discs won't work. Has anyone actually tried a PAL VCD or SVCD though?
I ask because the manual also calls the formats below "Non-playable discs," saying that they "may generate noise and damage speakers." Yet, elsewhere on this site, people report no problem with several if not all of these formats on this player.
DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD AUDIO, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, CD-ROM, PHOTO CD, CD-EXTRA, CD-G, CD-TEXT
Anyway, my question just centers on PAL. It's an extremely time-consuming process to convert PAL to NTSC SVCD's, and I'd rather avoid it. I don't have a JVC myself right now so can't test this.
Thanks -
Thought I'd bump this in the hope that someone sees it: Has anyone with a U.S. version of this JVC been able to play PAL discs? The manual indicates not, but has anyone confirmed this?
"This unit accommodates the NTSC television system and can playback discs recorded with the NTSC system. Note that the unit cannot playback the disc recorded with the PAL system." -
The manual that came with the unit is a combo manual for the S300BK as well as the S400BK. This is the name of it online:
JVC XV-S300BK Full.pdf
I did find another version of the manual online, which must be intended for Europe, since it said the exact opposite: will play PAL but not NTSC. -
I have this player, controll sucks, But try making a progressive file..
-
many (about 50%) of usa players will only play ntsc but most (90%) of pal players will play both pal and ntsc. They actually have to disable something for the player to only play ntsc!. Try it and see! any 25fps in the right format would be regarded as pal maybe they are just worried about region codeing??
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.
