Hi, first off i would just like to mention i have a BASIC grasp of Digital video etc, but am relativly new to DVD (i know what a vob is, but dont understand multiple langueages etc). Also, all my programs have been downloaded in 2003, so they are probably the latest.

Heres what i want to do:
I have a 3 DVD set with episodes from a series (26 eps at about 20-25 mins an ep), so each DVD has about 9 eps on it. I would like to end up with a seperate Divx avi file for each ep.

Heres my problem:
I read the only DVD to divx guide (pinoy2201's), and followed it (i used smart ripper to rip dvd cause i already had it, and it ripped fine, plus i didnt calculate bitrate as i just set the divx codec to my normal settings). If i set DVDx to only encode say 10 mins of the 3.5 hour video, it would make the avi. When i tried to encode the whole lot (total estimated avi size just under 1 GB) it crashed at 66% (plus it seemed to encode in almost real time, but from what i gather this is the norm).

My pc is not crappy - its only a few months old, heres the spec:
AMD AthlonXP 2400+, 512mb ddr ram, Gigabyte motherboard, 120GB 7200rpm HD, win98. Dont know about DVD rom, but its new and the dvd rip worked ok.

Even if i try again and i get the avi, its gona take forever to cut the thing into episodes, plus it seems a bit dark.
I tried encoding the seperate vobs with DVDx (they aren't 1 vob per ep unfortunatly, but its would make smaller avis to piss about with in Vdub!) but i can only get the japanese language. i did get chinese subbtitles, but this aint alot of good.

Any help would be appreciated, even if its just how to make my pc less likely to crash, but a way to encode each ep to a single avi is what i really want.

Cheers, Steve.

ps, i cant get as good quality/filesize with Divx5pro codec as i can with old divx4 fastmotion, but this can wait!
