  3. Nice pull.

I know someone who scored a fully functional inkjet printer behind the Computer Science builing at the college I attended a few years back.

Sounds like me at work. We can't take things home with us, so I threw away 1800 CD & DVD cases. I put them in a trash bag, tied it up. And set it on top. Later on I took em' out.

  6. Mine shares one with Trader Joes so there is often tons of old food on top.

I wonder what BB does with those used dvds that were in those cases? Hmmmm.

well, the one I hit is in a 2-store strip mall - it's them and a shoe store, so the only food in it is an occasional soda that someone has thrown out...

I wonder what BB does with those used dvds that were in those cases? Hmmmm.
They put them into proprietary Blockbuster cases - they strip out the disc, label and insert card, and throw the original case out and put the discs into the Blockbuster case... which isn't that much different, since I usually find one or two worn ones in the pile...

I find it so funny - the first time I went in and asked, the manager gave me this big song and dance about how most of the discs ship from the distributor in the BB cases, so they didn't throw any out... when 3 steps behind her I could see a huge bagfull next to the trash can.

"So, those are some sort of back stock of cases?"

she looks around. looks back with a resigned look on her face..

"Oh. I guess you could have those..."

but good tip... I was thinking about hitting another BB in my area, but now that I think of it, it's in a strip with 2 or 3 fast food joints... probably some pretty sloppy works in their dumpsters...

That's interesting because about 4 months ago I saw the manager inside a blockbuster getting ready to throw out a ton of what looked like BRAND NEW DVD CASES. Anyway, there must of been 75....he said they were used...but perfectly fine and he was getting ready to throw them out. I said..."throw them out"...he said..yea...why..do you want them? I thought about it and said...no....the reason I said no is because I use ultra slim jewel cases which are much less bulkier and space consuming as the standard DVD cases. Neato also has these ultra slim jewel case inserts which amazingly, with their neato media face 3 and 4 software ..will fit the name of the movie on the spine where there is barely centimeteres remaining.

Anyway, I personally don't hoard things...I figured if I take them..what will I do with them. I don't know anybody else who makes backups...and what could I see them for.... .10 a piece. But the guy told me if I ever do want any..just holla'.

anyway you might want to visit a few blockbusters and talk to the managers...one of them should have no problem hooking you up.

I used to live with roommates accross the street from pizza hut. If we got hungry we would order a crazy pizza and then have it delivered to someone. Of course it would come back to pizza hut and at the end of the night it would get thrown in the dumpster. After they closed up we would just go retrieve it in the box in perfect condition. Good eating for a bunch of starving students.

Oh man, I hope you're joking. I would never eat any food out of a dumpster! Only God knows what has happened to it. You don't know if the pizza place handled it sanitary once they figured it couldn't be sold. At least with DVD cases and printers you can spray it with a can of Lysol to kill the germs or whatever.

They could could of microwaved it to kill all the germs......

But then again, I've never been hungry enough to take food out of a dumpster.....Reminds of the scene in Spawn where the dad gets pissed off at his kid because the kid didn't want to eat rotten food

I kept only about 200, the rest I gave to friends and stuff. Some of them I brought to church to use for the DVDs we produce.

  14. One of my good friends used to be the store manager at my local Buster. While he was working there, he "threw away" at least 1000 VHS tapes. Why? The corporate office told him to! They were just cleaning house...that store is primarilly rents DVDs now.

My niece's boyfriend was a manager at a Blockbuster in Virginia, he would make my sister's day - he would just bring over all the tapes to be thrown out, so she could pick through them.

so she now has enough of a collection to start her own rental shop!

well, she deals with it like this - she takes out the stuff she wants, then she offers them up to family & friends (every time I go to visit, I come back with a box of tapes!), and all the leftovers go to a used bookstore nearby, for store credit.

and I think she takes the children's movies to a local library up in West Virginia, where they have a farm.

    but yeah, she makes out....
