  1. I was finally able to get a codec that WORKED for converting ASF to MPG. Nimo. Anyhow, the encoding looked like it was going along fine. Then after it was done I went into a file player and the video was flipped upside down and there was no sound.
Any idea what happened? How can I fix it?

I had the same problem - WMP always crashed, in mmswitch.ax, so I removed it. Now, everyting came out upside down, mirrored. So, someone suggested opening the offending file with good ole mplay32. While the movie is running, select properties. There the used codecs are shown, and there was indeed a checkbox for flipping the picture. (Codec properties). Just check (or uncheck depending on inital state) this, and it will show fine. (You better do this prior to encoding!)
