Ok
I got a new computer, one that is fast enough to rip movies and I just downloaded tmpgenc version 2.510 and found out that there is only a 30 day trial. On my old computer I have a previous version of tmpgenc (version 2.54) and there was no mention of a 30 day trial for mpeg2.
I have a couple of questions.
1. Can I use svcd encoding on any other versions of tmpgenc for free?
2. Is this only a 30 day trial just for the mpeg2 or the whole program?
Thanks in advance

We were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked?

The trial is just for mpeg2, the rest of the program works fine after 30 days.

Thanks Touchwood
So I can make as many vcds as I want. Cool
One question down one to go.
Now I am still waiting for the most important question to be answered
1. Can I use svcd encoding on any other versions of tmpgenc for free?

Have a look for version 12a. It has full free MPEG2 encoding and the quality is fine, but it takes about 25% longer to encode than the current versions.
