  1. Hi

Well, I think the title says it all! I'm trying to encode an Xvid into VCD, but it must have a bad frame in it or something and now TMPGEnc hits this frame and this image is then displayed, while the sound carries on, as if it can't read beyond that frame.

How can I fix this problem?

    Thanks

Load the DivX into Virtual Dub. Select Video-->Scan video stream for errors. If any are reported, go to the frame in question, mark it, delete it. Save the video under a new name and try to convert it again.

  3. You can also try to frame serve the file from VD to TMPGEng. I just did this over the weekend and it fixed the problem with an XVID file. If you don't know how to frame serve check out this link.

  4. Thanks for the replies - I think it's going to work now.

I have had another minor setback with the Xvid - I can't get TMPGEnc to recognise the sound in the file, and when I tell VirtualDub to save the WAV ti tells me that the input file format is incompatible with the output format. I've tried all the different cominations, inclusing keeping it the same as the source, but it refuses to work. Is there any other software that will allow me to extract the audio from these files?

    Thanks

  5. First look under the tools page at vcdhelp.com and download Gspot. This program will give you a wealth of information about your file. Take a look at the audio portion of the window. Do you have the correct audio codec installed. If not, check which one it is and search google to find it. Install the codec and run Gspot again. This time is shoud say the codec is installed and VD might work.
If that does not work, you can use Cool Edit, although you may to purchase this program. Once you open the program you can select "open audio from Video File" from the File menu. It will take about 5 min to open but you will have the entire audio. Save this as a wav file and you should be able to load it up in TMPGEng.
