Hello again!
I recently posted a question regarding the process of removing a menu from a DVD for a local film festival production - thanks for all of your help; the movie(s) are almost ready! I have one more task that needs to be completed before I have everything done for this project though:
The board of directors for the film festival would like there to be a blank, black screen for roughly 10 seconds before the DVD plays [the one without the menu - that part is already done], and for the last half of that time duration (of the blank, black screen) they would like to have to logos for their sponsors fade-in / fade-out. They said that they can provide me with images of the logos but I was wondering how one would go about doing such a thing, and if so, with which program would I achieve the best results?
If my description of the challenge in unclear, please let me know and I will post any additional information that is pertinent for comprehension of the problem.
Thanks so much in advance - you guys are great!
Take care!

If you have finished DVD, the easiest would be using Mpeg Video Wizard.
You can create your screen in, let say, Photoshop, export as .bmp file import in spliced .vob with transitions. You can also do just black .bmp file.
This is good for still picture, if you want something to scroll, than you will have to create it in some kind of video editor like Vegas or Premiere. -
Okay great!
So if I were to export a black screen (still image) and photos (logos done in photoshop) out of the program (I'll try mpeg video wizard; hope it doesn't cost too much) how do I get them to "stay" for 5 seconds each?
The way that I would like it is 5 seconds of a black screen, and then five seconds to display 2 or 3 logos, and then go to the movie. If I'm exporting them from images, is there an option in the program that asks me how long they should stay for?
Thanks once again!
Cheers!
P.S. Is there a "be all, end all" way to do this; a way that will work better and more easily for me than another?

In Wizard you can import .bmp and paste it as many times to get duration you want. It imports into a time line so you see how long it will be.
To your P.S.
There are other editing software, but you are talking about finished DVD, that has to be modified.
Most editors will not import .vob or DVD for that matter to let you do what you want. -
sorry i forgot about this being a finished dvd/mpeg go with tinker and the mpeg video wizard suggestion unless you have the original material and can re-edit and encode.
if this is an ntsc project 30 frames is 1 second. so paste 150 black frames for 5 seconds. do the same for the logos. -
Thank you everyone!
I am going to try out Mpegwizard and see how that goes. Thanks for all of the wonderful tips and suggestions - they're life savers for the project that I'm working on at the moment.

Make the opening blackscreen/logo into a little DVD. Then open the original movie DVD in PGCEdit and Title->First-play (Startup) Clip and follow the instructions from there. That will then have your opening stuff play before starting the movie.
Creating the logo DVD can easily be done using freeware. You don't have to buy anything. If you make the logo pic available, quite a few of us can make it for you to your specifications. Some will use their commercial products, others freeware. Then we'll upload them somewhere for you to choose among the results.
Some of the methods outlined here (I won't be more specific than that) sound downright silly to me. -
I would create a looping DVD in Ulead DVD Workshop 2. Merely insert a few objects made last minute in Premiere, still images that fade in and out, plus black "nothing" scenes. No need to edit the original MPEG movie at all.
I see some somewhat "silly" suggestions too, but there's a number of ways to accomplish this. I would prefer to leave the main film alone, handle this by adding in authoring.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I have acquired Womble MpegWizard and I will see what I am able to do with it on my own, but if it takes too long, I may have to send the images over to someone here for a quick transmutation of my logos into a brief DVD title clip. Thanks a lot for the offer, I really, really appreciate it.
I'll update you as the situation progresses
Cheers!
