  1. I looked around on this forum, downloaded more stuff than I'll ever use,..
but I can't seem to find how to burn my BIN/CUE files to a svcd using something else than Toast. This can't be so difficult?!
I already got some usefull tips, but it seems still to complicated for me as I'm a newbie with no background on these things.
Although I understand what most terms mean by now, I still don't know how to install/use some things.. and I'm getting pretty spaced out trying and trying and trying..

I've got the FinkCommander, but how do you let it download and install things?

I even want to try burning trough the terminal (found out some commands, any idea where I can learn more?) with cdrecord or cdrdao but I'm not getting anywhere.
I have folders named cdrdoa-1.1.7, cdrdaoGUI, cdrtools-1.10; where should I put them and how are they used? What is the difference between cdrdao & cdrecord?

If I open the cdrdaoGUI and start the cdrdaoGUI.pbproj I can chose build
what opens up MMB; here I'm stuck because I've got some driver problem.
I feel pretty stupid asking this, but is this a hardware setting? How do i know what to choose, and is there any way of testing this?

(Note that my system is 10.1, so please no jaguar ways)
Don't really need all the answers, as long as I can burn i will be verry, verry happy!
    Forgive me for my newbieness..

I have a Mac Svcd burner that works nicely. It was written by a friend of mine and it does the job nicely with no toast needed

Send me your email and ill email it to you. If memory serves, its a small .sit file

You need to have the .cue and .bin files the program will do the rest. Its self explanatory.

my email is galactica@comcast.net ill send it to you when you reply.

Hope I'm not bugging you to much -just can't wait to try it!
Thanks a lot; a little help can sometimes give a great relief.

  4. I had similar problems with MMB, until I realised that to get it working with my built in CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive under MMB/cdrdao I had to select the DVD-R device (i.e using IODVDServices instead of IOCompactDiscServices), even though I didn't have a DVD-R drive...
    Then use the generic-mmc driver.

!!!!!!!!!TO THOSE WHO REQUESTED THE MAC SVCD BURNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I have gotten about 30 e-mails for requests of this program.
I will email those of you the program who have already sent me an email.

HOWEVER, please do not email me if you do not have OSX 10.2 installed. The program requires 10.2

Due to the demand, I am going to host a link where anyone can download this program. SO, I until I post that link, please continue to email me at galactica@comcast.net

Once the post is up, just click on the link.

Keep in mind, you must have 10.2 installed.

(All updates of 10.2.x will work as well)

    Best requards
    /Galactica

cdrdao burns in disk-at-once (DAO) mode, and that's what you should use for burning (S)VCD at the command line. cdrecord has some limited support for DAO mode, but it's primarily a track-at-once program for burning ISO images.

If you want general information on using the terminal, pick up any introductory UNIX book. Mac OS X is different from most UNIX systems in some ways, but the general everyday commands you use to get around in the terminal should mostly be the same.

  7. Galactica, I'm interested in your software for burning SVCD's. I have a few questions. Since it requires bin/cue files how does it differ from "Missing Media Burner" ? A great burning program which also requires bin/cue files. A big stepup would be a program that would burn SVCD files from the mpeg2 file as is. However for what ever reason no one has come up with one. Why would one want to use your software over MMBurner? Thanks for any info.

  8. Do you have an internal CD drive and an external CD-R(W) drive?

Well, MissingMediaBurner doesn't support this by itself until version 0.5. However, there's a catch - it doesn't work with Mac OS 10.1.x, only with 10.2. You'll want MissingMediaBurner 0.2. This is available at <www.angelfire.com/rnc>. But then, you don't get external support, but the internal version of CDRDAO does. This is how you get it to work with Mac OS 10.1.x:

Run the Media Burner normally. The terminal will come up and report something like this:

    Welcome to Darwin!
    cd /Users/nikki/Desktop/vcd\ folder/MissingMediaBurner.app/Contents/Resources/bin
    ./cdrdao write --device IOCompactDiscServices --driver generic-mmc --force --eject --speed 4 -v 2 /Users/nikki/Desktop/vcd\ folder/example\ test/PAL/videocd.cue
sw/bin/init.ch: No such file or directory.
    [localhost:~] nikki% cd /Users/nikki/Desktop/vcd\ folder/MissingMediaBurner.app/Contents/Resources/bin
    [localhost:Contents/Resources/bin] nikki% ./cdrdao write --device IOCompactDiscServices --driver generic-mmc --force --eject --speed 4 -v 2 /Users/nikki/Desktop/vcd\ folder/example\ test/PAL/videocd.cue

SCSI interface library - (C) Joerg Schilling
    L-EC encoding library - (C) Heiko Eissfeldt
Paranoia DAE library - (C) Monty

Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver tables.

ERROR: Cannot open SCSI device 'IOCompactDiscServices': Unable to get plugin Interface: e00002c7
ERROR: Please use option '--device bus,id,lun', e.g. --device 0,6,0
    ERROR: Cannot setup device IOCompactDiscServices.
    [localhost:Contents/Resources/bin] nikki%

Retype the ./cdrdao command except replace IOCompactDiscServices with IOCompactDiscServices/2. You should get something like this:

    [localhost:Contents/Resources/bin] nikki% ./cdrdao write --device IOCompactDiscServices/2 --driver generic-mmc --eject --force --speed 2 -v 2 /Users/nikki/Desktop/vcd\ folder/example\ test/PAL/videocd.cue

Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver tables.

Well, hopefully you wont get the medium removal error. I didn't the second time. Hope this helps.
