  1. As I'm not familliar with the use of the terminal, could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? This is how far I've got following the installation steps;

    1.Download the installer disk image:
    Fink 0.5.1 Binary Installer - 12.5 MB
    (10.1 users - use Fink 0.4.1)

    -I use 0.4.1 (just to be sure that everything works on my 10.1.2..)

    2. Double-click "Fink-0.5.1-Installer.dmg" to mount the disk image, then double-click the "Fink 0.5.1 Installer.pkg" package inside. Follow the instructions on screen.
    3. Open a new Terminal.app window and type "pico .cshrc". A text editor will pop up. Enter this line:
    source /sw/bin/init.csh
    and then hit return. To get out of the editor, press control-O, return, control-X. Close the Terminal.app window.
    4.Open a new Terminal.app window and type "fink scanpackages". (This does one final bit of necessary setup. When asked for a password, enter the password of your normal user account.)

    Here I'm stuck;
    "[localhost:/Applications] carlofre% fink scanpackages"

    -pressed enter (?) and got;

    "OK? find scanpackages? yes"

    -hit "y" and got;

    "find: scanpackages: No such file or directory
    [localhost:/Applications] carlofre% "

    Help?!
    Next steps in line should be;
    " Then type "sudo dselect", which will launch you into a package selection app. In the menu, hit "[U]pdate" once, then go to "[S]elect" to choose the packages you want installed. When you're done, hit "[I]nstall" to actually install the packages.
    5. When you install packages in the future, repeat step 4, but you can skip running "fink scanpackages". "

    Because the explanaition was for 0.5.1 this seems the most logical explanation why it won't work, but what do i have to do instead?
    The intention is to use fink for 'installing' cdrtools; (user)installing tips are welkom..

    PS it's not my intention to be a newbie 4ever and keep on asking these 'typical newbie' questions but for now I don't seem to have much choice..
    Gues I'm growing up (yes I can already wipe my own @$*)

  2. Get the FinkCommander, no need to bother with Terminal codes. Nice GUI.

    But first, have you installed Apple X11? (And if you want to switch to different keyboard other than english, use X11 launcher, another app.)

    To use FinkCommander, you must have the X11 open, so you can install binaries.

    Do you have a folder at the root of your Hard Drive named "SW", this is where Fink (with the help of FinkCommander or not) stores and installs the applications (binaries).

    When you're done installing binaries with FinkCommander, go to the X11 window, Application menu, clic Add : Double clic on the left and give it a name; double clic on the right and write that exact path :

    /sw/bin/exactnameofyourapplication

    (Whre you replace the "exactnameofyourapplication" by... what it says, without the " "

    Then clic Done. Go back to the Application menu and select the app you want.

    hope this helps... 8)

  4. Was thinking that I was almost there.. not!

    This is how ‘far’ I’ve got till now; Downloaded & installed XDarwin (can’t upgrade to X11 and extra’s for OS10.2 since I’ve still got 10.1)
    Do I need some other X11 related stuff to?

    Yes, I have the sw folder whit the fink stuff.. but how exactly & what binairies (by the way are binairies always applications?) do I need? Do I have to download this FinkCommander somewhere?

    All I wanted to do in the beginning is to burn a SVCD.. Because I don’t have Toast I try to burn it in an alternative way. Asking around this came back;
    ***
    There is an alternative, a CLI for cd burning;
    “I compiled cdrdao for Mac OS X. This can burn bin/cue files very easily.
    You can download my binary from here:”

    http://homepage.mac.com/anarkhos/.Pictures/cdrdao.tgz

    The command is used thusly:
    Insert a blank CD, tell the finder to ignore the CD and continue.
    type:
    sudo ./cdrdao write -device IOCompactDiscServices blah.cue
    If run as root cdrdao will use high priority threads to avoid underruns.
    If you have a DVD burner you would use "IODVDServices" instead.
    If your CD-R isn't known (like mine wasn't) you can select a specific
    driver. For example this is in my .tcshrc file:
    alias cue sudo /Users/anarkhos/cdr/cdrdao write --device
    IOCompactDiscServices --driver generic-mmc
    thus to burn anything I just type "cue blah.cue"
    ****
    So I went there, took it.. and now I don’t know how to use/install it yet
    To burn the SVCD on CDR do I need (IODVDServices or) IOCompactDiscServices as device?
    I also got cdrtools1.10 (unpacked folder, .tar & .tar.gz)
    Where do I go from here? Getting more and more questions and so little answers.. help? (must be stupid, but it doesn't realy hurt that much)

  5. Do a search for and find "Missing Media Burner" is a gui for CDRDAO works great I use it all the time. So much easier then messing around with commands unless you love doing things in the dark
